Sikh dharm is of course, as a separate path, much more than just a defender of dharm. And I would also say that it is not just a defender of Indian dharm, that would be too limiting.
For example, the 6th Guru built a mosque called Guru ki Maseet for his Muslim followers, an example of his tolerance and broadmindedness.
